Biography

Congressman Paul Tonko is a six-term member of the United States House of Representatives, currently representing the 20th Congressional District (Capital Region).

Paul serves on the Energy & Commerce Committee and is currently Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment & Climate Change. He also serves on the Energy and Oversight & Investigations Subcommittees. Additionally, Paul serves on the Science, Space & Technology and Natural Resources Committees.

He co-chairs the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), the green voice in Congress, and serves as an honorary board member of the Alliance to Save Energy.

Paul was previously President and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Prior to that, he served in the New York State Assembly for 25 years, including 15 years as Chairman of the Committee on Energy.

A graduate of Clarkson University, Paul is a former engineer for the New York State Public Service Commission.
